Why I Left The Corporate World to Teach Yoga in My 50s

Hi Reader,

Sharing a bit about me today...

I spent over 30 years in the corporate world. Then, I became a certified yoga teacher and wellness coach in my 50s leaving the corporate world behind.

First I became a yoga teacher over 10 years ago and later a wellness coach.

Becoming a yoga teacher has been a deeply personal and transformative journey for me, shaped by three significant aspects of my life:

  • my mother’s battle with cancer
  • my own struggles with knee and other joint pain after years of dancing, and
  • my passion for helping women live healthy, happy, and pain-free lives.

My mother is a cancer survivor, a fact that profoundly influenced my understanding of health and wellness. Witnessing my mother’s journey, I learned that cancer, while a formidable challenge, has lifestyle components that can be managed and, in some cases, mitigated through mindful living.

This realization planted a seed in me about the importance of preventive care and holistic health. I wanted to empower women to take control of their well-being, reducing their risk of chronic illnesses through mindful practices.

Dance has always been my first love, but after many years of rigorous training and performances, I began to experience severe knee pain. I turned to yoga to find relief, and it was a revelation. Yoga didn’t just alleviate my knee pain; it taught me to listen to my body, understand its limits, and nurture it.

This experience was a turning point. I realized that yoga was more than just a practice; it was a path to healing and self-discovery.

These personal experiences culminated in my decision to become a yoga teacher and now a wellness coach.

Hey Reader, In my recent video about sticking to healthy habits, I talked about two game-changing tips: 1. Focus on just ONE goal (not ten!) 2. Start with one small action step (ridiculously small counts!) These two things alone can make the difference between quitting by February (most new year's resolutions don't last beyond February) and actually making progress. So I wanna know...What's YOUR one goal right now? And what's one small action step you could take this week toward it? Hit reply...

I thought I could just do it on my own...easy peasy. I recently stopped working out with my personal trainer (not because she's not awesome 'cause she is) but our schedules just couldn't jive anymore. So, I figured, I have weights at home, I can just work out on my own, no problemo! I had all the best intentions of doing my full strength training sessions 2 to 3 times a week for an hour. I had a couple of dumbbells, a dedicated workout space and told myself, “This time, I’ll stay consistent.”...
